CONCACAF has announced that Melchie Dumornay and Adalberto Carrasquilla have been named the 2023/24 Players of the Year.

Olympique Lyonnais Féminin midfielder Dumornay is the first Haitian to win CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year award and only and the second Caribbean player ever. Adalberto Carrasquilla is the first Panamanian to win Men’s Player of the Year honours and helped Panama reach the final of the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Deserved awards for the pair

CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani spoke about the winners, congraulating Melchie Dumornay, mentioning her “tremendous rise in our confederation with her incredible skill and determination.

“We saw it in our W Championship in Mexico two years ago for the Haiti national team and again in her outstanding performances in the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year. She is doing great things for her club in France and is an inspiration for people in Haiti and all of the CONCACAF region.”

As for Carrasquilla, Montagliani labelled him “the best player in our 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup”, adding that “he inspired and led Panama to the Final with outstanding performances, and during his club season with the Houston Dynamo, he led them to the US Open Cup title and a berth into the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

He has driven Panama to the next level on the pitch, and I congratulate him as a very worthy CONCACAF Player of the Year. On behalf of CONCACAF, I congratulate Coco for a fantastic season.”

Andre-Pierre Gignac’s free-kick goal in Round One of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup was selected by fans as the Goal of the Year.
