Mexico and Ghana’s most recent meeting

The Mexicans’ last meeting with Ghana came in June 2017, when the North Americans won 1-0 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Elías Hernández scored the friendly’s only goal, converting from the penalty spot after 31 minutes.

Mexican victories in London and Frisco

Before that clash six years ago, the countries had not met since Mexico secured a 2-1 friendly victory at London’s Craven Cottage nearly 10 years earlier.

Although Michael Essien gave Ghana the lead early in the second half of the March 2008 clash, a Mexican side coached by Hugo Sánchez turned the scoreboard on its head in the final 15 minutes.

Carlos Salcido equalised for the 12-time CONCACAF champions, before Pável Pardo netted a penalty with four minutes left.

Two years previously, in the teams’ first ever match-up, Guille Franco’s late winner earned a 1-0 victory for Mexico in a friendly in Frisco, Texas.

The countries are yet to face each other in a competitive match.
