Ahead of this summer’s Gold Cup the two CONCACAF sides go head-to-head in a pre-tournament friendly in Mazatlán.
The Mexican national team will take on fellow Gold Cup contenders Guatemala in the first of their pre-Gold Cup friendlies.
For the very first time El Tri will play in the home of Mazatlán FC in Sinaloa, in their recently-completed Estadio de Mazatlán. It marks the start of a busy summer for Diego Cocca’s side. Friendly fixtures against Guatemala and Cameroon will act as preparation for a Nations League semi-final clash with the United States, and then the Gold Cup later this month.
Guatemala will also compete in this year’s Gold Cup finals, qualifying after winning League B, Group D of the Nations League. They will go into this fixture as clear underdogs but can call upon the services of Rubio Rubín, the 28-year-old forward who plays for MLS side Real Salt Lake.

Mexico vs Guatemala prediction
This game is an important warm-up fixture for the two teams ahead of an important summer of international football. However we might see Mexico experiment a little under new coach Diego Cocca, who took over in February and has only been in charge for three matches.
For this reason, we’re predicting a fairly close game but Mexico should have the quality to edge it.
Prediction: Mexico 2-0 Guatemala
