After weeks of waiting, manager Gerardo Martino released the final list of the Mexican national team for the Qatar World Cup 2022. One of the biggest controversies was the non-inclusion of striker Santiago Giménez, who is having a good time with Feyenoord, and is currently the top scorer in the UEFA Europa League.

Giménez harbouring World Cup dreams

The former player of Cruz Azul has already been notified that he will not be taken into account for the World Cup, with Tata opting instead for Raúl Jiménez despite the fact that he has not played in recent months due to injury. Despite the fact that the decision has already been made, the Eredivisie player still harbours dreams of being able to go to the greatest football tournament on the planet.

A few days before the start of the World Cup, Mexico will have its last preparation game against Sweden, where the Wolves player must demonstrate that he is physically fit to be able to feature at the World Cup. If not, the door may reopen for Giménez.

It is worth mentioning that the FIFA regulations allow for changes to injured players up to 24 hours before the start of the World Cup.

The Tricolor will begin their journey in the World Cup facing Poland on November 22, later they will face Argentina and will close the group phase taking on Saudi Arabia.
