Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernández has been handed a three-game LaLiga ban for his sending-off in Los Blancos’ weekend victory over Girona.

In the closing stages of Saturday’s Spanish top-flight game at Montilivi, which Madrid won 3-0, Nacho was shown a straight red card for a reckless, studs-up challenge on Girona forward Portu.

Nacho to miss Clásico against Barcelona

The 33-year-old will now miss Madrid’s league clashes at home to Osasuna on 7 October, away to Sevilla on 21 October and away to arch rivals Barcelona on 28 October.

In its ruling on Nacho’s suspension, the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary panel said it was issuing a three-game ban for “dangerous play that caused damage to its victim”.

Nacho has also been fined €600, with Madrid ordered to pay another €1,050.

What injuries has Portu suffered?

Girona have confirmed that Portu suffered ankle and gluteal injuries in the tackle, with the Catalans’ head coach, Michel, telling DAZN: “It doesn’t look good.”
