Carles Gil will continue to be linked to New England Revolution for at least two more seasons. The Major League Soccer franchise and the Spanish midfielder reached an agreement on Thursday to extend his contract until 2026 with the option of an additional year.

Gil’s achievements with New England

The 2021 MVP winner will continue to serve as a Designated Player with the New England franchise. He is currently in his sixth season with the Revolution and has a total of 33 goals and 63 assists in MLS regular season matches.

Carles Gil has added several achievements at an individual level since he arrived in Major League Soccer for the 2019 campaign. The Spaniard has been named the best team in the league on two occasions, three times selected to the MLS All-Star Game and has been voted the team’s best player in three of the last six seasons. His 66th minute strike against DC United on the opening day was a contender for MLS Goal of the Matchday.

Gil is thrilled with his contract extension, and said in a statement, “During my time in New England with the Revolution, I have been able to rediscover my joy on the field and I am at my happiest when I am playing winning football for our supporters. I have cherished my last five years with the club and enjoy the competitive league, playing with my teammates, and our great fans. I have so much more to give to this club and the supporters, who give me all their backing and confidence as their captain. For Maria, Marco, and myself, Boston has become our home. I am excited to continue my career in New England and will give everything on the pitch to win trophies for this club”.

Carles finished as the Revs top goal scorer in 2019 and 2023. With 38 goals to his name is the franchise’s 10th top goal score of all time and needs just two more goals to become the fifth player to achieve 40 goals and 40 assists in all competitions for New England. He has a good chance of matching or surpassing Shalrie Joseph, Pat Noonan, Joe-Max Moore and Steve Ralston in the all-time ranking this season.
