Newcastle United ‘trolls’ Kylian Mbappé

A dream Champions League night may have been a long time coming for the Toon Army, and a chance for the social media team to have some fun.

Georgies around the world must have woken up on Thursday morning wondering if what they remember happening the previous night had only been a series of involuntary images and emotions tied up while they were sound asleep. The euphoria upon realising that their Newcastle United heroes had indeed demolished the more illustrious Paris Saint-Germain must have been the polar opposite to the awaking sensations felt by the Parisian club’s main man, Kylian Mbappé.

And it was the French superstar who, rather obviously, was the focus for the continued celebrations.

Mbappé gets a Toon trolling

Saint James’ Park witnessed a stunning 4-1 victory in Game 2 of the Champions League group stage over the French giants. The Magpies left their shyness and nerves behind after their opening return to UEFA’s top table in Milan and bossed Luis Enrique’s men for much of the encounter, including, of course, Mbappé, the megastar of Al-Khelaïfi’s project.

One of the snaps of the night that caught the eye was of the Frenchman, looking dejected alongside Toon defenders Dan Burn and Fabian Schär, both unlikely scorers in the game. And the Premier League club’s social media team spotted an opportunity to make their fans smile.

“Two players in this picture scored last night,” was the text that accompanied it, along with the little fire emoticon.

The truth is that the PSG forward has not started this season so well, especially compared to what he has been doing in recent years, and now without Messi and Neymar. We will see if this ‘trolling’ proves counterproductive for Newcastle, who have yet to visit the Park of Princes.
