On paper, an attacking trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi should’ve worked like a dream at Paris Saint-Germain. In the end, it wasn’t quite a nightmare, but PSG failing to win the Champions League and being eliminated in the round of 16 in the two seasons the three players were at the club wasn’t part of the plan.

Neymar’s “hot and cold” relationship with Mbappé

While Neymar’s friendship with Messi has been well known since their Barcelona days, the same can’t be said for new Real Madrid attacker Kylian Mbappé.

Reports of friction between the pair regularly surfaced during their time together in Paris, with the France captain describing their relationship as “hot and cold” during a press conference in September 2022.

According to French journalist Cyril Hanouna, Neymar has now opened up to Brazil teammates Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Eder Militão and Endrick about what sharing a field and dressing room the Mbappé was really like. And he hasn’t been at all complimentary.

Speaking to French radio station Europe 1, Hanouna claims: “The Brazilians at Real Madrid are friends with Neymar. It has always been a war between Neymar and Mbappé. Neymar has sent a paper about Mbappe to the Brazilians, telling them that it was catastrophic, that it was hell.”

When Mbappé asked PSG to sell Neymar

There were reports in France that Mbappé had asked PSG to sell Neymar in the summer of 2022, although the Brazilian eventually moved on to Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal 12 months further down the line.

Mbappé has, of course, also now left the Ligue 1 champions having failed, along with his illustrious teammates, to fire them to Champions League success.

The 25-year-old appears to have fitted in well with his new Real Madrid teammates and has slowly come into form after a sticky start, scoring three times in his last two appearances, and four goals in six games overall.
