No doubt about it: Real Madrid’s plan is clear

Vinicius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé will continue to be the focal points of Real Madrid heading into the 2026-27 season. The Brazilian and the Frenchman are the club’s franchise players, and the new project envisioned by Madrid’s leadership is built around two stars who have not quite hit their peak level this year, but in whom there remains complete confidence regarding what they can still deliver.

After the elimination against Bayern in the Champions League, both left frustrated but also motivated to move on from a season in which neither felt fully satisfied on the field. Vinicius’ issues adapting under Xabi Alonso and Mbappé’s well-documented knee problems worked against them putting together a complete campaign. Their relationship remains strong. They have consistently tried to link up throughout the season, even if they have not always been on the same page.

Mbappé and Vinicius’ situations at Real Madrid

Their situations, however, are very different. Vinicius and Real Madrid have been moving in lockstep for weeks regarding a contract extension. Both sides are convinced that the forward will remain at the club. There is no doubt about it, and everything is now a matter of timing before announcing a renewal on a deal that currently expires in 14 months.

The plan is for the forward to travel to the United States, report to Carlo Ancelotti, and represent Brazil at the World Cup with the new contract already signed. There is complete confidence that this will happen. The understanding between the club president and the player is total, as they have shown whenever they meet. It has been, and remains, a personal matter for the president.

As for Mbappé, he is the first to acknowledge that he has not met expectations. He has not hidden it and has even said so publicly on social media. He knows he owes the fans, and especially the club, more, but he has been given full backing for the future. There is not a single doubt about his future at the club.

The most difficult moment for the Frenchman came during his trip to Paris, when he addressed both his teammates and the club. He understood that his presence and contribution alongside his teammates at the decisive stage of the season were essential.
