Pachuca - Toluca summary: Pachuca champions, score, goals, highlights, Liga MX Apertura play-off final second leg

Pachuca increased their advantage from the first leg, recording a 3-1 win over Toluca to claim the Liga MX Apertura title 8-2 on aggregate.

Pachuca 3-1 Toluca (agg 8-2)

Full time and that is a resounding victory for Pachuca! 5-1 in the first leg and 3-1 tonight to record a historic win!

Full time! Referee adds no time on and PACHUCA ARE CONFIRMED CHAMPIONS!

Toluca corner cleared and Pachuca break with 4 on 3... the ball is neatly moved out right to De la Rosa who hits one that spins just past the far post. Fine chance that.

Toluca win a free-kick some distance from the box,but Sanvezzo decides he can go full Roberto Carlos on it. He does not in fact go full Roberto Carlos on it, merely battering it into the wall. The ball does break kindly for a Toluca attacker but he makes a mess of the chance and keeper Ustari tidies up.

Had to be another for Pachuca with Volpi spilling the ball for de la Rosa (who had just come on for Ibáñez), but he was denied Pachuca's ninth by a last gasp challenge from a defender!

Flares being lit around the Estadio Hidalgo as the home side celebrate becoming Mexican Champions for the seventh time, equal with Pumas and Tigres.

Victor Guzman off for Pachuca and Javier Eduardo Lopez comes on in his stead.

Volpi out fast to dive at the feet of a Guzman and deny a fourth Pachuca goal.

Daniel Cabral! Slots home the penalty and that's 3-1 on the night now.

Referee initially ignored Pachuca claims there had been a handball from Ortega blocking a cross from Guzman, but when the official is called over to review it, he gives the penalty. It was pretty clear.

Header from Ibañez that he has to score, but a defender clears it off the line!

Pachuca's turn to change things:

Romario Ibarra off for Marino Hinestroza
Paulino de la Fuente off for Aviles Hurtado

Chances for Pachuca, but they can't get a shot off and Toluca clear.

Not sure this is going to make any difference, but Toluca decide to switch out Leo Fernández for Jorge Rodríguez

Sanvezzo the next to go into the ref's book for a rough one on Gustavo Cabral.

Olé! Olé! shout the Pachuca crowd with every touch from their team. #Domination.

Toluca really struggling to put together anything in attack. The home side look very comfortable, in addition to their five goal cushion...

Another yellow! Luis Chavez, who takes down Gonzalez as he span away from him in the midfield. Soft booking.

Paulino de la Fuente into the box, determined to go himself... he lets fly and that is VERY wayward.

Clear yellow for Meneses, who cynically breaks down a Pachuca attack down the right.

Toluca win a corner and Leo Fernandez takes it but it's easily cleared by Pachuca - who take the ball up the other end and are nearly in when Romario Ibarra is clearly fouled at the top of the box. The referee decides to ignore it for some reason.

Toluca's Camilo Sanvezzo next one to go down needing treatment - he was stood on after jumping for a high ball. He's good to carry on, as is Baeza who is back on.

Toluca's Claudio Baeza needs medical attention, he's hurt what looks like to be his knee in a challenge in the midfield.

He ends up coming off but not clear if he will play on.

7-3 on aggregate now and this is going to be a Pachuca party from here to the final whistle.

Dangerous free-kick beautifully converted in goal! Ball rolled across the box and Ibañez smashes it home!

Wow! Ortega into the book for Toluca, and that was NEARLY a penalty. He brought his man down just outside the box. Dangerous free-kick for Pachuca...

Terrible pass back to Volpi, and Ibañez goes sliding into the keeper, but he's late and goes into the book. Nasty challenge.

Pachuca with the first chance... a neat lay-off at the top of the box falls to Luis Chávez whose shot is deflected to safety.

Toluca Substitutions

Out: Brayan Angulo, Raúl López and Fernando Navarro

In: Camilo Sanvezzo, Daniel 'Fideo Álvarez' and Haret Ortega.

How things stand on aggregate. 1-1 on the night. Toluca STILL with it all to do.

Second half underway!

Teams coming back out for the second half. 45 minutes to decide the Apertura champions!

Pachuca 1-1 Toluca (6-2)

Toluca got their goal to give them hope through Raúl López after 21 minutes, and when Volpi saved a penalty near the end of the half they must have started thinking it might be their night, but just a couple of plays later their hopes were utterly dashed when Víctor Gúzman popped up on the left and hit a bouncing ball which ended up beating everyone in the Toluca defense and nestling in the back of the net.

With just 45 minutes to play and Toluca needing four things are looking good for Pachuca.

Víctor Guzmán hits a bouncing ball from out on the left and it somehow goes past two defenders and the keeper to put Pachuca level on the night and four ahead on aggregate!

That's a very tame penalty from Ibañez  which Volpi saves to his right and pushes away for a corner!

Ibañez to take the penalty kick.

Referee has completed his review and it IS A PENALTY!

We now get another extended conversation between the Toluca players and the referee.

VAR has reviewed it, but the discussions between the referee and the players are going on interminably.

And only now is the referee heading over to look at his pitchside monitor. That's far, far too long.

Penalty for Pachuca! Handball!

Cross came in and looked like a pretty clear handball, with Jean Meneses jumping and letting the ball hit his arm, which was away from his body.

Ibarra skills down the left, beating his man and crossing for Erick Sánchez, but his shot his blocked!

All got rather niggly at the moment with a series of fouls from both sides, who are struggling to create any flowing football.

Ouchie! Leo Fernández clattered by Paulino de la Fuente in the midfield.

Toluca need another three goals without reply to force extra-time, with the aggregate score 5-2 in favour of Pachuca.

Corner swung in from Pachuca right under the cross bar and Volpi flies and punches it clear. One for the photographers.

Long free kick from out left from Guzman for Pachuca, but it's overhit and Volpi gathers with no pressure.

Raúl López needs to be careful as he's already on a yellow card.

Couple of corners from Pachuca come to nothing, but the home side won't be too bothered, the longer they have the ball down the visitor's end the more the clock runs down, and still with a three-goal advantage that's much to their advantage.

Pachuca's Cabral booked for a loose elbow that connected with an opponent as he ran into the Toluca box.

Fine save from Volpi from a Luis Chaves free kick.

So, 5-2 on aggregate!

Raúl López! Smacks one from outside the box and it flies past Ustari and into the right hand side of the goal. Took a bit of an odd bounce but the keeper got a touch and should have done a lot better!

Pachuca relaxed at the moment and knocking it about happily in the midfield. Crowd shouting Ole with every pass.

That's some lovely build up play from Toluca, bringing it with feet through the midfield, but the final ball to Angulo is JUST too long and the home defense mop up easily.

Volpi save! He denies Paulino de la Fuente who hit a fine shot from distance.

Pachuca right in this game now after the first 10 where Toluca were in control, but offered little danger.

First yellow of the game! Raúl López takes down Ibarra and slides all the way into the book.

Corner to the near post and a decent flicked on header is caught by Ustari.

First chance for Pachuca... they break down the right and Kevin Álvarez feeds Nicolás Ibáñez, but Volpi saves a shot from close range!

That will give Toluca nightmares - they've been in charge for the first 10, but with one attack Pachuca came closest to scoring.

Lovely skills from Leo Fernandez out on the Toluca right, he beats two men, but is then brought down. Sharp feet!

Toluca have had the majority of the ball and started some decent moves, though they've come to nothing, but you might have expected them to be even more energetic, given the task facing them.

Long distance effort into the hands of Ustari, who gathers easily on the deck.

Toluca probing, mostly down the left, but the home side's defense clearing everything up before it becomes dangerous.

Toluca's Leo Fernandez looking to create some danger down the left, but Gustavo Cabral does well to clean up.

Toluca will be looking for a super early goal to give them hope and rattle the home side.

Off we go! Pachuca - Toluca underway. Aggregate score 5-1.

Teams in their positions and everything ready for the referee's whistle..

Toluca 1-5 Pachuca: summary, score, goals, highlights, Liga MX Apertura 2022 final

The first leg was as disastrous for Toluca as it was great fro Pachuca, but the crazy thing is that Toluca didn't look that bad - in fact they looked like the more threatening force at the start of the first half, but poor defending and individual errors let Pachuca run up a 4-0 first half lead.

A late goal from the home side offered a glimmer of hope for the local fans who were a credit to their side in the face of adversity and things would have looked a little different had Leo Fernandez managed to convert his 95th minute penalty. But he didn't.

That said, Pachuca were excellent and Uruguayan coach Almada looks destined to end his losing run in Liga MX finals after a wonderful first leg display from his side.

Level with Pumas and Tigres

If the Tuzos can hold on for the win (read: likely) they'll hit seven titles, equal with Pumas and Tigres.

Who is Canelo Álvaez supporting?

It seems like neither - he's all about being an Atlas fan now and hasn't shown any love for either team on social media in the run up to tonight's game.
