Pep Guardiola slams Man United fans for “lack of class”
The Manchester City boss was responding to chants aimed at the mother of Phil Foden.

Manchester City were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United on Sunday but head coach Pep Guardiola was disappointed with a different issue in the post-match press conference.
City midfielder Phil Foden was targeted with insulting chants during the game, with a section of the United support singing derogatory songs about his mother. Speaking after the game, Guardiola slammed the fans involved.
“Lack of class. But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know?” Guardiola said. “We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football: managers, owners, and football players especially.”
He continued: “Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”
Guardiola’s comments came after a lacklustre Manchester derby in which both teams failed to show any real quality. Foden was a starter for City but was substituted after an hour having struggled to make an impact.
The point leaves Manchester City in fifth place, which will likely be good enough for Champions League qualification for next season. However they are just one point ahead of Aston Villa and two in front of Newcastle United, who have played two games fewer.
City will not extend their Premier League-record run of four consecutive titles but the priority now for Guardiola’s side is to set themselves up for a productive 2025/26 campaign. Champions League qualification is a must to ensure that they can attract the very best players this summer as City embark on a massive squad rebuild under their most successful manager.
