Pochettino loses three key players ahead of the Nations League Final Four
The USMNT face Panama in Inglewood on Thursday, aiming to book a place in the final for the fourth time in a row.

The US Men’s National Team (USMNT) has confirmed a major setback ahead of Thursday’s CONCACAF Nations League semi-final against Panama in Los Angeles. Antonee Robinson, a key player in the team’s lineup, has been ruled out of the squad.

USMNT trio ruled out of Nations League Finals
In addition to Robinson, Johnny Cardoso and Auston Trusty - both of whom have been standout performers for their clubs and were expected to play important roles during this FIFA window, are also unavailable for the match against Panama - and a potential final on Sunday. They will be replaced by Brian Gutiérrez, Max Arfsten, and Jack McGlynn.
Robinson’s absence is a significant blow for the United States, especially as the left-back is in exceptional form with Fulham in the Premier League. With 10 assists this season, he is surpassed only by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, underscoring his critical contribution on the field.
Born in England but naturalized as an American, Antonee Robinson was named US Soccer’s Player of the Year. His impressive stats have caught the attention of major clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, further cementing his reputation as a top talent in international soccer.

Pochettino’s optiodns to replace Robinson
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino faces a significant challenge in finding a replacement for the injured left-back. The options are limited, as the USMNT lacks another left-back with Robinson’s caliber and impact on the field.
One possibility could be shifting Max Arfsten, who is set to replace Robinson in the squad. Typically a left winger for the Columbus Crew, Arfsten might be adapted to occupy the left-back position.
Another option might be Tim Ream, a seasoned player who is familiar with the left-back position. However, given his age, this decision could pose a risk for the Argentine coach. How Pochettino navigates this dilemma could significantly influence the team’s performance.
Other players who have experience as right-backs, such as Marlon Fossey and Tim Weah, might also be considered for playing on the left side as inverted full-backs. This option could come into play during Thursday’s matchup against the Canaleros. While this tactic offers flexibility, it could require adjustments in positioning and dynamics on the field.
