PSG, like many other teams, have already wheeled out the blackboard, ready to plan out their options for next season. Although their main objective is to secure Ligue 1, a tournament in which they have an 8-point advantage over second place, the club have already moved to secure pieces for the next stage of the jigsaw that Qatar demands, with the picture on the box of the puzzle being one of a big leap forward in terms of domestic and continental success, something they have failed to achieve in 2023.

Up front, the club have already made contact regarding a striking partner for Kylian Mbappé. In the corridors of power in Qatar, the neurological centre of operations for PSG, the name Randal Kolo Muani is ringing. According to RMC Sport, contact has already been made regarding the availability of the player and, although the French international is not in a rush, that is not how Qatar feel. He is the priority.

Kolo Muani would be a costly operation for PSG

Competition for the player is fierce: Manchester United are another club who would be delighted to acquire his services, as are Bayern Munich, who need to fill the gap left by Robert Lewandowski. In disagreement with the PSG board is Luis Campos, the club’s sporting director, who considers Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to be a more promising target. However, the balance of influence is not clear at PSG, and nobody is quite sure if Campos will be allowed to wield the sword of power like he did last summer.

RMC Sport says Kolo Muani’s price tag says €100 million on it. Contrary to past seasons and despite having suffered losses of up to €368 million, the club would have no issue paying the fee for the player. As for Osimhen, the competition for his signature will also be ferocious, with the club badge on his shirt not changing for less than €100 million and possibly even up to €150 million. On the horizon sits the name of Harry Kane, whose contract ends in 2024 and has been a dream for the Qatar owners for many years.

Messi exit might make Muani more likely

The possible, but yet to be confirmed, exit of Lionel Messi from PSG would allow the club more wiggle room to pull off various high-value operations. Qatar have made it clear that Kolo Muani, who Campos also likes, despite wanting Osimhen, is the priority and could work well with Mbappé, who is ‘tired’ of having little support. Whatever happens, Luis Campos and Al-Khelaifi have at least until June, when PSG will wrap up their latest title, to argue about it all.
