PSG opens door to Real Madrid’s troubled hero Valverde
The French giants have quietly made contact after the midfielder’s clash with Tchouaméni, sensing uncertainty around his future.
Paris Saint-Germain has come knocking for Federico Valverde. For now, the approach has been informal – a request for context after the altercation with Aurélien Tchouaméni. As first reported by El Chiringuito and confirmed by AS, the contact took place over the weekend. A call to understand what happened and gauge the current situation.
It was also the continuation of long-standing interest. PSG had made contact before, though it never progressed beyond that because signing the Uruguayan was viewed as virtually impossible. Now, however, the circumstances appear different. That is why the call was made: to determine whether the present – and especially the future – might no longer be the same. If Real Madrid were ever to open the exit door, PSG would be ready to open the one to Paris.
Inside the French club, there is awareness that Valverde has no desire to leave Madrid. That reality has not changed despite the fight that shook Valdebebas and the club itself. The midfielder is currently recovering at home after the injury sustained in the incident, with doctors recommending “between 10 and 14 days of rest.”
Still, PSG believes the recent chain of events created an opportunity to position itself. And that is exactly what it has done.
A simple but clear informal message: if leaving becomes an option, they are there. The Parisian side had already shown interest in previous transfer windows, as Valverde has been on its radar for some time. But the context had never looked quite like this.
No financial figures have been discussed yet, though there is a belief that any potential deal would require a nine-figure fee. Sources consulted by the newspaper estimate Valverde’s valuation at between $110 million and $132 million. The moment to cross that bridge has not arrived, but if it does, the groundwork is already in place.
Manchester still lurking for Valverde
For now, Madrid’s measures regarding the incident have been clear and are already settled: a fine of roughly $550,000 and no sporting suspension. Valverde’s focus remains solely on returning and continuing at Real Madrid. That is his wish.
But if the club were ever to move in another direction, offers would not be lacking. PSG would be there, and other phones that rang in the past could start ringing again. One of them belongs to Manchester City.
According to information obtained by the newspaper, City also reached out in the past. Most recently, last summer, during a transfer window that ultimately saw Tijjani Reijnders arrive in Manchester instead. Across town, United have also been rumored to be interested.
At that time, the idea of prying Valverde away from Madrid was considered fantasy. But if he were ever to lose his untouchable status, the City option – which has inquired more than once – could quickly heat up again.
