PSG reportedly strike sales agreement with Kylian Mbappé for 2024
France do not allow release clauses, but PSG and Mbappé have found a way to make all parties happy until 2024.
The Kylian Mbappé-Real Madrid-PSG transfer saga, as is becoming the yearly norm, took a 180º twist on Saturday. PSG had highlighted the day as something important, generating a hugely intrigued football fanbase as to whether or not something was about to occur.
The game against Lorient ended 0-0, and there could have been songs against Mbappé, as was ‘planned’. However, those songs never sprang from the crowd and the club even sidled up to Kylian in order to rebuild broken bridges, so much so that there was, dare it be said, a sense of optimism in Paris regarding the situation.
The meeting that changed it all
There was certainly a meeting, AS understands, of over 10 minutes between Kylian Mbappé, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Enrique, Ethan Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, who sat with Kylian in the stands. PSG extended the olive branch to the forward and arrived at an agreement which has unblocked the drains and given hope to a situation previously thought of as impossible.
On Sunday, PSG announced that the French national team captain was to return to training with the first team and would no longer be a part of the exiles in Paris.
Could Mbappé sign a new contract with PSG?
In a speech directed at the players, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi recognised that “Kylian Mbappé was committed to the club”. For the first time in a long time, he was seen to be visibly happy and smiley, even stopping in the training ground entrance to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The happiness of the Qatari was clear to see, well in the knowledge that the meeting had been a success.
Mbappé is open to renewing his deal with PSG and the club will offer him a deal with a view to selling him next summer. In France, the league dictates that release clauses are “strictly forbidden” but they do not cover inside agreements between clubs and players. These ‘agreements’ are not legally binding but they do occur: Lens renewed the contract of Seko Fofana and unofficially agreed to sell him for under €30 million. He now plays for Al-Nassr, who bought him for €25 million this summer.

Mbappé will be part of PSG’s squad against Toulouse
Mbappé, according to L’Équipe, has promised PSG he will not leave on a free transfer, and that he will renew his current deal with a non-official, verbal sales agreement with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, not a release clause.
Kylian Mbappé will be a part of the PSG first team squad for the upcoming game against Toulouse, for the first time since July 21, where he came off the bench to score a pre-season goal before being told he was not part of the PSG tour of Japan. The bingo sheet is certainly full for this saga: an unexpected twist at the end, it seems, is the latest one. Whether this is the end of it all or not, however, is a completely different story.
