The wait is over for Christian Pulisic to net his first goal of the season for Chelsea, reaching a milestone at the same time. Saturday’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge represented only the second start for Pulisic this campaign and the USMNT player didn’t waste it, responding in a really positive way to the confidence placed in him by new boss Graham Potter.

Pulisic starts and hits 20

‘Captain America’, as he’s affectionately known by some, put in an impressive performance during the 71 minutes he was on the pitch. He scored the second in the Blues’ victory over a struggling Wolves side, one that is already seen as being in a relegation battle in the Premier League.

On minute 54 of the game, Pulisic scored one of the goals of the day in the Premier League, breaking down the left wing in a Chelsea counter attack and dribbling past Nelson Semedo. Then, combining with Mason Mount, the American took the return pass and chipped in beautifully, which places him in American EPL history.

Pulisic onto podium of 20+ Americans

His goal against Wolverhampton not only represented his first goal of the season in the Premier League, but also meant that Pulisic equaled an achievement that only two American footballers could boast before. It was the 20th of the USMNT player, putting him in a select group made up of Brian McBride and Clint Dempsey as the North Americans with more than 20 goals in the Premier League.

Brian McBride managed to score 36 goals during his time in the Premier League with Everton and Fulham, while Dempsey left his personal mark of 57 goals in the 217 games he played for Tottenham and Fulham.
