Update:

The FA Cup semifinals take place at Wembley Stadium in London this weekend, with Manchester City the firm favorite to lift the trophy as they look to complete a Premier League and FA Cup double.

City face Championship side Southampton in the first semifinal on Saturday and are expected to reach a fourth straight final with something to spare. The competition, however, has not been especially kind to Pep Guardiola’s side in recent years, with back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Crystal Palace in the 2024 and 2025 finals.

How many times have Manchester City won the FA Cup?

City’s last FA Cup victory, which came against Manchester United in 2023, was their seventh overall, making them the sixth most successful team in the competition’s history.

Of the four teams left, only one has lifted the trophy more often, and they could soon catch them.

How many times have Chelsea won the FA Cup?

Chelsea take on Leeds United in Sunday’s semifinal and will be hoping the FA Cup offers a welcome distraction from Premier League struggles, where they have lost five straight matches without scoring a goal.

Along with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues have won the FA Cup eight times, trailing only Arsenal (14) and Manchester United (13). That includes four titles in six years between 2007 and 2012, although their reputation as FA Cup specialists has taken a hit in recent seasons.

Chelsea reached five finals in six years between 2017 and 2022 but lost four of them, with their only win in that stretch coming against Manchester United in 2018. They have lost three FA Cup finals in a row between 2020 and 2022 and have not returned to Wembley for the final since.

How many times have Southampton won the FA Cup?

Southampton will be first to try to spring an upset on Saturday. The Saints famously won their only FA Cup in 1976 as a second-tier side, beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final.

They also lost finals in 1900 and 1902 and most recently appeared in the showpiece in 2003, when they were beaten by Arsenal at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

How many times have Leeds won the FA Cup?

Leeds United, meanwhile, will play in their first FA Cup semifinal since 1987, an astonishing drought given the club’s size and history. Like Southampton, the Whites are aiming to win the trophy for only the second time, with their lone triumph coming all the way back in 1972.

Leeds were beaten finalists the following year and have not reached the FA Cup final since.
