Many names are being linked with a move to Real Madrid in the near future. Players, yes - but right now the spotlight is on managers: coaches both out of work or looking for a change, especially with a potential vacancy coming up at the Bernabéu. In recent times, the number of approaches has multiplied, but there is one name that truly stands out - none other than José Mourinho.

Mourinho open to Real reunion

The Benfica boss, who was Madrid head coach between 2010 and 2013, has never hidden his admiration for the club - or his strong relationship with the Bernabéu president, Florentino Pérez. Although his departure from the LaLiga giants was somewhat turbulent, Mourinho has not ruled out a return. That is why his agent, Jorge Mendes, has floated the possibility to Madrid that his client could open up a new chapter at the club. Indeed, Los Blancos have already been informed of a release clause included in Mourinho’s Benfica contract.

Mourinho is one of many options on the table at Valdebebas, but the only real concern among Real Madrid’s leadership right now is finishing off the season in the best possible way. A final decision on Álvaro Arbeloa’s future will be made during the closing month of competition, though at this point his chances of remaining on the Madrid bench appear slim.

On the plus side of the ledger are the team’s displays in the Champions League; on the negative side are certain decisions that have made the pursuit of the Spanish league title all but impossible - something the club also attributes in part to the attitude of the players, a message that has been delivered clearly in recent days. As a result, players and staff have met twice over the past few days. They know firsthand that the club’s image is at stake.

A wide-ranging list of coaching candidates

With spring well underway, this is the season of intense activity for representatives, agents, intermediaries, and agencies, all working to find new destinations for their players - or, in this case, their managers. Real Madrid is always a coveted landing spot, and this season is no exception. In recent days, a long list of coaches has been proposed as candidates to take over the Bernabéu bench starting June 30. Assuming - as now seems likely - that Arbeloa does not stay on as first-team boss.

The paths to Valdebebas, whether offering players or managers, are varied, and sometimes those approaches do not even come directly from the agent involved. Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Max Allegri, Jürgen Klopp, Didier Deschamps… a host of prominent coaching names have surfaced in recent days. But for now, the priority is clear: to close out the season as well as possible, and on that front there is no doubt - with Arbeloa in the dugout.
