Pumas aim to break yet another streak against Chivas in Clausura 2026
Pumas are out to end another drought in Guadalajara having already snapped winless streaks against Tigers and Rayados this year.

Pumas UNAM will face a pivotal test on Sunday when they visit Chivas at Estadio Akron in a matchup that could help define the direction of their season.
The game is about more than three points. It is an opportunity for Pumas to prove that their strong start to the Clausura 2026 is no fluke.
A trip to Guadalajara is widely considered their toughest assignment of the season. Chivas sit atop the table and Pumas have not won at Estadio Akron since 2018. Still, confidence is growing within the squad after a series of impressive results.

Pumas team built on breaking streaks
Efraín Juárez’s side has developed a reputation for ending long-standing droughts this season, establishing itself as one of the most competitive teams in Liga MX.
One of the defining moments came in Matchday 2, when Pumas beat Tigres UANL on the road, snapping a 12-year winless run at Estadio Universitario. That result helped set the tone for the campaign.
Later, Pumas followed it up with a 2-0 win over Monterrey, marking the first time since the Apertura 2015 that they have beaten both major Monterrey-based clubs in the same tournament.

Statement results against Mexico’s biggest clubs
Pumas have also shown resilience in other marquee matchups. They came back to earn a 2-2 draw against Cruz Azul after trailing, and recently secured a 1-0 victory over Club América, reinforcing their ability to compete with the league’s elite.
Each result has strengthened belief that this is not a team easily intimidated by reputations or hostile environments.
A chance to challenge for Liga MX glory
Now comes another defining challenge. Chivas enter the match as league leaders with 30 points and the most productive attack in the competition.
For Pumas, the objective is clear: avoid defeat against every major contender in Liga MX and continue building momentum toward the Liguilla.
A positive result at Estadio Akron would further confirm that this squad is not just in form, but capable of challenging for the title.
