Pumas make controversial fan decision before the Liga MX final second leg

As anticipation builds for the second leg of the Clausura 2026 Liga MX final between Pumas UNAM and Cruz Azul, authorities confirmed the security protocol that will be enforced at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, where a new Mexican soccer champion will be crowned on Sunday night.

The measures are aimed at maintaining order inside and outside the stadium during one of the most high-profile games of the season.

No visiting supporters’ groups allowed

The university club released a statement on social media announcing that, in accordance with Liga MX regulations, organized supporters’ groups from the visiting team will not be allowed into the stadium. That includes La Sangre Azul, Cruz Azul’s main fan group, which will be barred from entering the stands at Ciudad Universitaria.

“Restricted access: Entry for organized supporters’ groups or cheering sections from the visiting team will be strictly denied,” the statement posted by Pumas on X read. Club officials also confirmed that security personnel will continuously monitor the stadium surroundings to prevent visiting fan groups from gathering.

Another key point highlighted in the announcement was a “zero tolerance” policy. Anyone found organizing large supporter groups after entering the venue will be removed from the stadium, with Pumas insisting that the safety of families and all attendees remains the top priority.

Everything to be decided in the second leg

Neither Cruz Azul nor Pumas managed to take an advantage in the first leg at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, leaving the title to be decided in the return game at Ciudad Universitaria. Pumas were nearly unbeatable at home during the regular season, suffering just one defeat in their own stadium.

Cruz Azul, however, were one of the strongest road teams in the Clausura 2026 campaign. Under Nicolás Larcamón, La Máquina lost only once away from home, and interim coach Joel Huiqui has maintained that strong run on the road heading into the decisive final.
