Japan vs Croatia

The Al Janoub Stadium will see one of the surprise nations of this World Cup come up against one that has plenty of recent experience in tournament football, as Japan face Croatia in what is a difficult game to call.

“I have never forgotten about that battle against Belgium,” said Japan’s veteran defender Yuto Nagatomo reflecting on a last gasp defeat to Belgium at the same point four years ago. “Sometimes scenes from the match suddenly come back to me and the last four years have been very tough.”

“But I think we have grown mentally as well as physically and ... as far as I can see, this team is the best and the strongest that has ever competed for Japan at the World Cup.

“We intend to beat Croatia and enjoy a new landscape and I am looking forward to shouting ‘Bravo!’.”

Kick off is at 10:00 am ET / 07:00 am PT and the winner will go on to play the victor of the other match taking place today in the quarter finals.

Brazil vs South Korea

One of the real favourites to lift this year’s trophy on 18 December takes on another Asian underdog, but one that cannot be taken lightly as Brazil face South Korea.

Of course, for the South American team especially, but also around the footballing world, minds are focused on the country’s legend, Pelé, who remains in hospital. Another samba hero who was a doubt is expected to play in this game.

“Neymar will train today in the afternoon and if he trains well he will play,” Brazil manager Tite said about Neymar who missed the second and third group games through injury.

“If he plays, it’s because he is in full health and ready to start, to play from the beginning and the entire game with no limitations. My preference is always to play my best players from the start.”

At the Stadium 974 come 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT) the atmosphere will be electric.
