It’s transfer season and signings are being made by active clubs ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. The market this year has been disrupted by the mega-money being offered to players to go to Saudi Arabia.

Some clubs in Europe, including AC Milan, are now able to spend again after difficult financial periods and will continue to invest over the coming weeks before the window closes.

Then there are the clubs who will look for short-term loan deals. Several Spanish clubs are among those who are planning to find some cheaper deals this summer.

Manchester United sign former defender

In rather surprising news, Manchester United have signed Jonny Evans on a short-term deal. The former United defender was recently relegated from the Premier League with Leicester City and has joined up with his former club for pre-season.

Evans took part in a number of first-team sessions and impressed head coach Erik ten Hag and the club’s coaching staff. The Northern Ireland international brings a wealth of experience to the squad at Old Trafford.

The left-footed defender has been included in Ten Hag’s squad 24-man squad and will be available to play against Lyon on Wednesday. He will then join up with the Academy group that will travel to San Diego, while the first-team squad are in New York.

The 35-year-old played 198 games for the first team before departing the club in 2015, having won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, three Premier League titles and two League Cups.
