The good news for the beaten side on Wednesday in the Super Cup semi-final derby in Riyadh is that an opportunity to avenge the defeat is just around the corner. Monday’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 draw threw up another chapter of the Madrid derby with both sides set to meet on 18 January at the Estadio Metropolitano in the fourth round of the knockout tournament.

Schedule issues

With the cup game being scheduled for the Thursday night at 21:30 (local time) in Madrid, LaLiga may have to reschedule Atlético’s league match for Saturday the 20th, when Simeone’s men have to travel to Granada with the Thursday night Copa kick-off not such an issue for Real Madrid as they are due to play Almería on Sunday afternoon.
