EL CLÁSICO

Los Blancos’s Caroline Weir is ready to stop Barça’s run in El Clásico, but the capital team is without Lucía, Nahikari, Rocío, Gérard and Lorena.

Real Madrid arrived in Barcelona for their eleventh Clásico against the Blaugrana team, who are the clear leaders of the Finetwork Liga F with a ten-point advantage. However, some key players including Lucía Rodríguez, Nahikari, Rocío Gálvez, Gérard and Lorena are not part of the squad, which does though include Kathellen Sousa and Linda Caicedo.

Madrid Women ready for El Clásico

Caroline Weir, the Scottish star who has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions, is one of the team’s major assets for the game at the Johan Cruyff stadium. In a statement made to the club prior to the game, she expressed confidence in their ability to stop Barcelona and play their own game.

“We are looking forward to it. The team has prepared well during the week, and we are ready. We are familiar with Barça’s strengths and their great players, but we are confident that we can stop them and play our game. I am sure that we can do it,” said Weir.

“Nothing compares to a Clásico”

Alberto Toril is expected to start with the same eleven players who have been reliable in previous matches. The only question mark is whether Kathellen, who has recently recovered from a fractured bone in her arm, will play alongside Ivana Andrés or if Claudia Florentino will take her place. Feller, Linda Caicedo or Olga Carmona could play on the far left, while Svava may be deployed on the wing.

The team is well aware of Barcelona’s strengths and playing style, having faced them several times before.

“We know that they like to have possession of the ball and are very good at it. Their wingers are also quite dangerous, being both technical and fast. Playing away from home is always a challenge, especially against the league leaders. But when it comes to the actual match, nothing compares to the excitement of playing in another Clásico,” explained the Scottish footballer.
