The list of foreign clubs that want to sign Gabri Veiga continues to grow. Until now, the interest from the Premier League and in the Serie A had been known, but club president Carlos Mouriño revealed in El Larguero that Celta has also received offers from Ligue 1. “I can assure you that teams from Italy, England and France have spoken to us”, commented the owner when he spoke to national radio.

If there is a French club with the financial capacity to take over Veiga’s services, it is PSG. The French club share a sporting director with Celta in Luís Campos. Despite this close relationship, it does not seem to be the best placed option for the Spanish U-21 international.

‘They are going to buy Veiga’

In the list of interested parties, Mouriño did not mention the Spanish league, although he added that he does not know if any other team has directly contacted the midfielder. The president, once again, took for granted that Veiga will leave Vigo this summer -”they are going to buy him from us”, he said, as he explained why Celta has not made a move in recent months to renew the contract of the player and raise the release clause that currently stands at €40 million.

He claims that the club are using the same strategy with all the rising stars that come from his academy: “I’m not going to put a €100 million clause on you. I give you a clause that we both agree on and, if you see that you have the possibility to go on and succeed, you have the chance to take a big step up without anyone making things difficult for you”.

Regarding his successor at the head of the club, Mouriño endorsed his daughter Marian as future president: “She has the capacity to be president”. However, the businessman who has just turned 80 would like his current CEO Antonio Chaves to lead the club beforehand: “I have always said that the person who should make the transition, if my daughter were to be (president) later, would be Antonio Chaves. It would be the ideal transition as president and then from father to daughter.”
