Betis looking to spring a surprise

Real Betis head to the Bernabeu on Saturday with no fear with coach Manuel Pellegrini encouraged by his team from their positive starts and is buoyed in the knowledge that Madrid have failed to score against Betis in their last games at the Bernabeu.

Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho will be a key absentee for the side from Seville with the central player extending his contract with Betis through to 2026. The good news for Betis fans is the expected start for midfield maestro Sergio Canales.

Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of the contest, the Chilean coach reminisced about his brief spell at the Bernabeu as coach and was grateful that the transfer window failed to generate a mass exodus from the Benito Villamarin with Marc Bartra being the highest profile departure during the summer with the defender heading to Turkish champions Trabzonspor.

Betis will be without the injured Camarasa and Montoya with Pezella suspended following his red card last Friday at home to Osasuna.

Ancelotti looking forward to Bernabeu opener

Carlo Ancelotti was in confident mood as his Real Madrid head into a green and white double header as the face Betis on Saturday before facing Glasgow Celtic next Tuesday in matchday 1 of the 22-23 Uefa Champions League.

It was a quiet day for the Bernabeu side on transfer deadline day with the departure of Casemiro to Manchester United the most significant departure from the club during the summer.

The Italian coach can count on an injury free squad and it’s anticipated that Tchouameni will start again after impressing last weekend away to Espanyol.

Once again, the Madrid coach was forced to defend Belgian attacker Eden Hazard with so much hope deposited in the player ahead of the season. Ancelotti stated that he refuses to analyse a player’s performance on the back of just three games and that only an objective overview can be gleaned post season.

Prediction: Real Madrid 1-0 Real Betis
