Real Madrid vs Real Mallorca: form guide

So far, Madrid’s Spanish title defence is very much going to plan: Carlo Ancelotti’s men lead the way in LaLiga with a 100% record. Having secured away wins over Almería, Espanyol and Celta Vigo in their opening three games of the season, they edged out Real Betis in their first home fixture in 2022/23, Rodrygo Goes earning Los Blancos a 2-1 triumph over the Andalusians.

Madrid’s unblemished record this term also extends to all other competitions. The European champions eased to victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup in August, and on Tuesday began their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought, but ultimately comprehensive, 3-0 win away to Celtic.

However, the victory came at a price. Star striker Karim Benzema limped off at Celtic Park with a knee injury, and now faces around a week to 10 days out of action.

As for Mallorca, who remain a top-flight team after avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, Los Bermellones have made an eminently respectable start to the new campaign. Javier Aguirre’s side have lost only once in their first four games - at home to Betis in week two - and sit 12th with five points, having beaten Rayo Vallecano and drawn with Athletic Club and Girona.

On home turf, Mallorca have beaten Madrid in the recent past: in October 2019, Lago Junior’s first-half strike gave the men from the Balearics a 1-0 triumph. At the Bernabéu, however, they haven’t won since May 2009. They have shipped 20 goals and lost every time in their six visits since then.
