The early indications about the injury Karim Benzema picked up in Real Madrid’s Champions League victory over Celtic are encouraging for the Frenchman and the Liga giants. Pending further tests, it is believed Benzema has not suffered any damage to the meniscus, according to Spanish television show El Chiringuito. The Real Madrid striker will undergo more detailed examinations later on Wednesday or on Thursday to more precisely determine the extent of his injury. However, the initial tests suggest Benzema will not be sidelined for very long, which will give the club and Carlo Ancelotti some welcome news as Madrid have little in the way of back-up to the prolific Frenchman, who was recently named UEFA Player of the Year and is widely expected to add the Ballon d’Or to that.

Benzema and Courtois the only ever-presents

The Real Madrid captain was forced to leave the pitch at Celtic Park in the 30th minute of the game against the Scottish Premier League side, in which the visitors began their title defense. Until that moment Benzema was, along with Thibaut Courtois, the only player to have played every minute for Real Madrid so far this season.
