Real Madrid’s Rodrygo turns tie around in 84 seconds

Just as it looked as though Manchester City had done enough to reach the Champions League final, the Brazilian arrived on the double.

Football, bloody hell! That was the feeling as the whistle went for the end of normal time in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Rodrygo Goes ballistic

Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu with a single-goal lead following a 4-3 victory in the first leg at home. And despite an impressive showing from the recently-crowned LaLiga side - as well as a fairly lacklustre showing from the Citizens - it all looked in vain as Riyad Mahrez slammed home with less than 20 minutes remaining, giving his side a two-goal cushion. Oh ye of little faith.

CIty fans were already counting down the days until they would be meeting English rivals Liverpool in the Paris final as the minutes ticked away. Then Rodrygo, not long on as a substitute, struck, latching on to a Benzema cut across goal. That was in the 89th minute.

And he wasn’t done there. Just 84 seconds later he met a Carvajal cross from the right with a perfectly guided header to leave Ederson helpless. 5-5 on aggregate, no away goals rule to worry about, extra-time lay ahead...
