Real Madrid’s transfer decision on Spain starlet Víctor Muñoz
Having excelled at Osasuna since leaving Real Madrid, Muñoz is now preparing for a World Cup with Spain - and has become a sought-after talent.

Real Madrid retains a buy-back option on Víctor Muñoz - as it does with other players developed at Castilla whose futures it still partly controls - but it can only exercise that clause to bring him into the first team, not as leverage in a separate deal. FIFA regulations and, just as importantly, the club’s own internal standards, make that clear. For now, Madrid has no plans to trigger the clause for the winger.
A World Cup winger
Muñoz is now one of the 26 Spain players preparing for the World Cup that kicks off for La Roja on June 15 in Atlanta. Earning a spot with the national team in his first season at the top level underlines just how quickly he has progressed. His time at Osasuna, and the trust placed in him there, have allowed the former Madrid academy product to take the competitive leap he had already hinted at in his final year with Castilla.
Now, as he targets World Cup success with Spain, Muñoz is also mindful of what comes next at club level. His breakout performances have opened multiple doors. When Madrid sold him to Osasuna, it secured a three-year buy-back clause, matching rights on any offer, and 50% of any future transfer fee.
Muñoz’s agent, Juanma López, has already checked in with Madrid’s hierarchy to gauge their thinking. As things stand, the club’s current leadership is not planning an immediate move to bring Muñoz back. That doesn’t mean they’re turning their backs on the Spain international - but it does suggest he’s not part of their plans for the upcoming summer window.

So what happens next with Muñoz?
From here, several scenarios could unfold. Multiple clubs are willing to meet - or at least approach - the €40 million ($46 million) release clause in his Osasuna contract, something well understood in Pamplona. Teams from both Serie A and the Premier League have made inquiries about his situation and contractual terms.
Madrid, for its part, is monitoring every development. Should it activate either its buy-back clause or matching rights, it would be with the intention of keeping the striker at the club - at least through the first half of next season. FIFA regulations prevent a player from being transferred twice within a 12-week span, limiting any immediate flip.
Inside Valdebebas, Muñoz has exceeded expectations with his level of performance at Osasuna. After he made his first-team debut for Los Blancos in the 2024/25 season, under Carlo Ancelotti, Osasuna and sporting director Braulio Vázquez moved quickly to secure him, a decision that has clearly paid off. And if Muñoz ultimately leaves the Navarre club, their next major target from Madrid’s talent pipeline appears to be César Palacios - another highly sought-after prospect, though for now his focus remains squarely on helping Castilla earn promotion.
