Chelsea and England duo Reece James and Mason Mount have been been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury. The Blues have seven games remaining but little to play for at the end of a disastrous campaign for the club.

In a press conference on Tuesday interim Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirmed that the England duo are out for the foreseeable future. James is suffering with a hamstring issue and Mount has picked up a pelvic injury.

“Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same,” Lampard confirmed. “Reece had a hamstring injury in the midweek game. He got through it but then had a scan and he’s out.”

Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while. It predates myself and he has been trying typically but he will have minor surgery, then a four-week recovery.”

“He [Mount] might make the last match but that’s unlikely, which is obviously disappointing for us.”

Both James and Mount are graduates of Chelsea’s famed Cobham academy and became regulars in the first team during Lampard’s first stint in charge. They were both key members of the Chelsea side that lifted the Champions League in 2021 and have become established England internationals.

However in recent weeks there have been rumours of a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer after a season of upheaval under the new owners.

Earlier this month we reported that Reece James is a target of Spanish giants Real Madrid. Mason Mount will soon be entering the final year of his contract and - with reported interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich – would have offers from other top sides.
