Riqui Puig surprised with a new hairdo for the match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night. The 24-year-old midfielder dyed his hair blonde and celebrated his fourth goal of the season in Dragon Ball style in the home side’s 2-1 victory.

It was a different style, but the same Riqui Puig, someone who continues to be the driving force behind the Los Angeles Galaxy and one of the best players in all of Major League Soccer. The Spaniard has 2 goals and 8 assists in the last 10 league games and has contributed 12 of the team’s 27 goals in 15 games so far in the 2024 season.

‘Riqui and I, we get along well’

Riqui Puig is finding in Gabriel Pec an ideal partner in attack: since the Brazilian joined the team at the start of the campaign, the two have formed a unique partnership. It is relationship that is just beginning and has already proved to be incredibly successful. After the match against Houston, the Brazilian spoke about the understanding he has already created with the Galaxy’s No. 10.

“Yes, Riqui (Puig) and I, we get along well, game by game and day by day in training. Definitely, that pass was unexpected. I should do better in that position. And I’m sure, in the future, we’re going to create a lot more chances. I’m feeling more comfortable in the environment I’m in now,” the Brazilian admitted.

I’m improving game by game, as you can see. The fans have been welcoming from day one, and I’m very pleased about that. And with Jesus Christ and in this jersey, this is what I do and what I will continue to do,” he concluded. The Galaxy ended a streak of four consecutive draws with the win over the Dynamo, and it was Puig at the centre of the action.

LA Galaxy’s next game is against FC Dallas, which will be played the Galaxy’s home stadium, Dignity Health Sports Park. Dallas are 12th in the league standings and have only won 3 all season, but the nature of the division means that the Galaxy - and especially Riqui Puig - will have to be at their best when kick-off comes around.
