Robert Lewandowski and Gavi to return for FC Barcelona’s game against Athletic Club
The league’s top goalscorer has recovered from his injury; Gavi, after his suspension, is again available.
Robert Lewandowski and Gavi are the big talking points for this Sunday’s game against Athletic Club at San Mamés. The Polish striker returns to the squad after missing two games (Real Madrid and Valencia) due to straining his hamstring; the young midfielder was left out of the last match day due to suspension. Xavi himself will also be back on the bench after completing his suspension against Valencia.
There is no doubt that both Lewandowski and Gavi will be in contention to play a role in this Sunday’s game to tame ‘The Lions’. One, as the top scorer in LaLiga, with 15 goals, and the other, as one of the most intense and hard-working midfielders in the league.
Barcelona’s injury list
On the contrary, neither Ousmane Dembélé nor Pedri have been able to recover in time. In fact, the former is not expected for the Clásico on March 19 - his return is already scheduled for after the national team break. On the other hand, Pedri is expected to be ready for the game against Real Madrid next weekend. To go alongside these two significant absences, we must also add the name of Ronald Araújo, who is suspended for one game after receiving a red card against Valencia.
Plenty of players on the edge
In terms of the game at San Mamés, there are four players on a yellow card warning; they will not be able to play the Clásico at the Camp Nou if they receive a booking: Sergio Busquets, Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Kessié.
On a perhaps related note, but definitely a more positive one, two youth level players, Ángel Alarcón and Julian Araújo, trained with the first team during this morning’s training session.
