Round of 16 of the U17 World Cup bracket: who is the U17 USA team playing against?
Les Bleus topped the group after beating the USA U17s on Saturday.
The USA lost 3-0 to France in their third group game at the U17 World Cup on Saturday. The US had recorded two wins from their opening two games, but Les Bleus went top of the group with the victory.
USA to date
Forward Nimfasha Berchimas (15) scored a brace and Cruz Medina got on the score sheet to give the USA a 3-1 victory over Korea Republic in their opening match.
Berchimas is the youngest member of the US squad and the Charlotte FC forward became the youngest US player to score at the tournament since Freddy Adu netted a hat-trick against the Korea Republic in 2003.
Berchimas’ goals in the win were his third and fourth U17 goals in his fifth appearance. He also scored a double in the USA’s victory against Ukraine on 6 September.
USA beat Burkina Faso
In the USA’s second group game, they ran out 2-1 winners over Burkina Faso to secure their place in the last 16.
The US goals came late in the first half, the first from Keyrol Figueroa in the 45th minute and the second from Berchimas.
Berchimas’ three goals at U17 World Cup
Berchimas’ three goals at the U17 World Cup are tied for third for the US all-time, trailing only Freddy Adu and Judah Cooks, who scored four goals in 2003 and 1993, respectively.
The 15-year-old nearly had his second brace of the tournament against Burkina Faso when he found the net from inside the box in the 50th minute, but the strike was disallowed for offside.
