The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving Roy Keane during Manchester United’s Premier League match with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Keane, who was working as a pundit for Sky Sports, was allegedly headbutted by a fan during the game in north London, which ended in a 3-1 win for Arsenal.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Alejandro Garnacho’s late goal for United was ruled out for offside. As reported by The Athletic, Keane and Richards were moving between the studio and the pitch when the altercation occurred with a member of the public, who is said to have caught Keane on the chin and chest with a headbutt.

Keane, 52, was later described by witnesses as “startled”, but the Irishman “didn’t react aggressively and remained professional”.
