Scotland vs England: as it happened

England led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Foden and Bellingham. Scotland got back into the game midway through the second half when substitute Maguire put the ball into his own net. Kane then put the game to bed late on with a fine finish after more wonderful play from Bellingham.

Scotland have been excellent recently. They came into this game full of confidence but Southgate's side is full of world-class players and that was the difference. England are a super side and will be among the favorites to win Euro 2024.

England back to winning ways

They have some exceptional players and had too much for Scotland.

Southgate's men taste victory again after their 1-1 draw with Ukraine at the weekend.

FT: Scotland 1-3 England

The whistle goes for full-time!

England win at Hampden.

Scotland have been terrific of late, but this England side are just a step above.

There will be three minutes added on.

Scotland changes

Scotland make a couple of late changes.

England are knocking it around comfortably now. It's 3-1 and Southgate's side are almost home and hosed. This is a friendly, but let's be honest, it's never a friendly when these two meet.

England changes

OFF Harry Kane
ON Callum Wilson

OFF Jude Bellingham
ON Conor Gallagher

After Scotland's goal, they found momentum, but that Kane goal has killed it.

Bellingham has been a joke, too. What a player!

Kane had been quiet but he only needs one chance. Exceptional striker.

Bellingham is excellent again. He spins and drives forward, before slotting it through to Kane. Kane makes no mistake with a fine finish into the far corner.

England make it 3-1!

Another England goal now would make it very difficult for Scotland.

Trippier sends in the first corner of the second half. It's headed away. 1-2

Tierney picks up a yellow for dragging Saka back. They know each other quite well, too.

The left-back is now plying his trade at LaLiga outfit Real Sociedad.

GUNN denies Eze!

Eze is only off the bench but it's a superb save by Gunn to keep the home side in it.

Eze should really score there.

England changes

Southgate makes a double change.

Roberson, involved in the build-up again, crosses for McGinn. The Villa captain heads over. It actually comes off his shoulder.

Scotland 1-2 England

Scotland have scored in 13 consecutive games at Hampden.

There is belief again. Scotland have to go for it now!

Hampden is bouncing!

Robertson gets down the right this time. He crosses into the box and Maguire gets a touch that flies past Ramsdale. Game on!

Scotland have a goal back!

Harry Maguire puts the ball in his own net.

England haven't been as free-flowing as they were in the first half but they still have a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Christie!

He allows the ball to go across his body and shoots from 20 yards out. It goes wide of Ramsdale's left-hand post. That's more positive from Scotland.

Hampden Park lifts once again.

Robertson receives it in the final third. The Liverpool man overhits it and it goes out for a throw-in on the far side.

England stat: 34 goals in last 12 games

Clarke has made a double substitution as Scotland look to get back into this one.

You can feel the home fans getting a little impatient. There is still time to get a goal back but they can't leave it too late.

Scotland changes

The former Tottenham skipper goes to clip it over Gunn but it flies over the bar.

Bellingham, 20 has only failed to score in one game in 2023-24.

England have been very comfortable in possession in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Scotland are about to make a couple of changes.

Big game atmosphere in Glasgow.

Dunk clears Mcgregor's cross at the back post. It remains 2-0 to Southgate's side.

Scotland have just one win in 38 years against England. The legend Don Hutchinson scored the winner for the Scots in Wembley in November 1999.

He blasts over from 20 yards. He just gets too much on it.

Rod Stewart is at Hampden tonight. He does love his football.

Harry Maguire has replaced Marc Guehi at the heart of the England defence. Maguire will slot in beside Dunk, who is making his second England appearance.

I have a half-time change to report.

This man has gotten on the score sheet again. He's been phenomenal in recent weeks.

England lead 2-0 at Hampden Park.

Rashford gets us underway for the second half!

HT: Scotland 0-2 England

And there's the half-time whistle.

England lead at the break at Hampden thanks to first-goals from Foden and Bellingham.

There will be one minute added on. That's certainly a change from the recent norm.

The two England goals have definitely changed the mood here. It's suddenly not as noisy. But Scotland still have time.

Scotland have a free way out on the left. Dunk heads it away and Walker screams, "YES DUNKY".

Jude scores again

And he's only 20, frightening.

England find the back of the net twice in 2 minutes and 47 seconds.

Bellingham is on fire for club and country.

It's an awful mistake from Robertson. He plays it across goal and Bellingham buries it first time from inside the box.

Robertson just needs to clear it there.

England have another!

Scotland 0-1 England

Walker's cross-cum-shot is fired in and Foden turns his foot to guide it home from close range.

Bellingham has been outstanding for Real Madrid this season. He's shown some of that class in the opening half an hour at Hampden, playing between the lines.

England move superbly through the thirds this time, with some intricate one-touch passing.

Walker's low cross is eventually cleared by Hendry, who positions himself perfectly.

Bellingham gets in behind down the left. He cuts it back for Walker, who volleys wide. 0-0

There have not been many chances but it feels far from an international friendly.

The atmosphere is electric.

It remains 0-0 at Hampden.

Phillips finds Rashford in behind with a fine pass. The Manchester United man finds the Manchester City man, but Foden blazes over from just inside the box. It's a good chance for Southgate's men.

It's been a cagey start here. Both sides are just testing each other out.

Robertson curls the inswinger into the box. England are able to deal with it and it remains goalless in Glasgow.

Scotland have a free about 40 yards from goal after a 50-50 challenge between Phillips and McGregor.

Should England win this evening, it’ll be their 600th international victory.

Ramsdale goes route one to Kane. The Bayern man is away until Porteous comes over and makes the vital interception.

Rice and Phillips are in the double pivot for England. Bellingham is playing off Kane. As I write, Rashford turns brilliantly; he's playing on the left, where he operates best.

England have been on the front foot in the opening 10 minutes. Scotland are defending with a back five.

England have a third corner. Foden picks out Dunk in the 6-yard box. The Brighton defender can't keep his header down.

Trippier curls another corner into the area. It's headed away.

Scotland haven't beaten England at home since 1985. Can they do it tonight?

England have a corner on the right. Trippier picks out Rice at the back post. The Arsenal man sends it back in, but it's punched away by Gunn.

England and Scotland are meeting in this international match at Hampden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first meeting between the two nations on 30 November 1872, 150 years and 286 days before the date of this game.

Every early England touch is being booed.

Scotland are playing from left to right this evening.

The place is rocking!

And we're underway!

There is now a minute's silence for former Scottish manager Craig Brown and the victims of the Morocco earthquake.

Italian referee Davide Massa is today's official.

The teams are getting their pre-match photos taken.

Scotland are looking for their first win over the Auld Enemy this century.

What an atmosphere here!

It's a packed house and a huge occasion.

And now for the Scottish national anthem and the bagpipes.

The England national anthem is booed heavily.

Here come the teams!

Going into the oldest rivalry in football, here's another stat for you.

The Proclaimers (500 miles) are being played as the two teams go through their respective warm-ups.

Kick-off is just over 15 minutes away.

England look for another win

If England win in Glasgow this evening, it will be their 600th international victory. They will be the first European nation to hit this number.

Scotland flying

Scotland have five wins from five games in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, which has them within touching distance of a second European Championships in a row.

Hampden Park

The stage is set in Glasgow.

150th Anniversary Heritage Match

Today's friendly in Glasgow is being called the 150th Anniversary Heritage Match.

Last meeting between Scotland and England

England are undefeated in Scotland since 1985, while Scotland have not beaten England in 24 years.

The last meeting between the sides ended in a 0-0 draw at Wembley in Euro 2020.

What the managers have said

Scotland manager Steve Clarke and England manager Gareth Southgate both spoke to the media ahead of this one.

“We want to beat them every bit as much as they want to beat us,” Clarke said pre-match.

“It should make for a full-blooded contest played in the right spirit in a magnificent atmosphere. You can relax a little in some friendlies: not in this one!”

“We cannot fiddle around with the team because we are playing a top-level side,” said Southgate. “You cannot overly experiment because that would be ridiculous.

“You’ve also got to find out about certain players. You have got to be bold enough to do that. This will be something different for those who were not in the last England v Scotland game.”

The first international soccer match was between Scotland and England on November 30, 1872.

Today the countries will play the 150th anniversary celebration match.
