Seattle Sounders reach agreement to sign Pedro de la Vega

Pedro de la Vega will join the MLS outfit on a deal until 2027 with the option for another year.

According to journalist César Luis Merlo, Seattle Sounders have reached a verbal agreement with Lanús for the transfer of Pedro de la Vega. The winger will sign a deal until 2027 with the option to extend the contract for another year if both parties agree. De la Vega had several European teams interested in his services, but the Sounders’ offer ended up convincing Lanús.

Several media outlets report that the final fee could be in the region of $7 million for 80% of his rights. The signing of the Argentinian is in line with MLS’ policy of buying young players with future sales in mind.

Lanús stats

About to turn 23, De la Vega is considered one of the best players in the Argentine top flight, also acting as one of the captains of Lanús this season. He scored 17 goals and registered 13 assists in his 126 appearances for the club, with whom he made his debut in 2018 at the tender age of 17. In a career marred by injuries, De la Vega is set to begin a new adventure with the goal of being able to make the jump to Europe in the coming years.

International duty with Argentina

Before he can join the Sounder’s pre-season training camp, De la Vega will play with Argentina. Javier Mascherano has called the player up to feature in the upcoming Pre-Olympics in Venezuela, which will be held from 20 January to 10 February, with the objective of qualifying for Paris 2024. De la Vega is one of the stars of the team along with Valentin Barco (linked with Brighton), Pablo Solari (has an offer from MLS) and Federico Redondo.
