Starting on Thursday 16 February, the 2023 SheBelieves Cup will see the United States, Brazil, Canada and Japan battle it out to win the eighth edition of the four-team women’s soccer tournament, which is always held in the States.

Initially contested by the same four countries - the US, England, France and Germany - the invitational event was opened up to other nations in 2019. Last year, the US won the SheBelieves Cup ahead of the Czech Republic, Iceland and New Zealand - the fifth time the Stars and Stripes had lifted the trophy. The tournament’s only other winners have been France in 2017, and England in 2019.

SheBelieves Cup: tournament format

Running until Wednesday 22 February, the 2023 SheBelieves Cup will, as ever, be played in a round-robin format. Each nation will play each other once, earning three points for a win and one for a draw.

The team that accrues the most points will win the tournament, with overall goal difference used to separate sides if they finish level on points. If teams end up with the same number of points and the same goal difference, goals scored will be the next tiebreaker used, followed by head-to-head results and countries’ fair-play ranking.
