Sneijder on Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez: “They both suck”
The former Dutch player once again criticized the Mexican footballers for Ajax’s bad form in the Eredivisie.
Ajax are having a forgettable season. The side from Amsterdam are fifth in the Eredivisie, a competition in which they have not won since 22 October 2022 when they thrashed RKC Waalwijk. All of this has led to a series of criticism towards the club, with Mexicans Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez in the middle of the storm.
After Wesley Sneijder had previously said that Sánchez is one of the worst defenders in Dutch football, and that Álvarez looked like “he was giving a kind of a salsa lesson” in the game against Feyenoord, the former Dutch player attacked the Mexican soccer players yet again.
In the interview for the Veronica Offside program, Sneijder revealed that he has received many messages from the Mexican fans via Instagram and once again slammed the Aztec soccer players. “I’m not a fan of Álvarez. Last week I also said something about Sánchez. My mailbox is full of Mexicans. They weren’t happy. I don’t know if the Ajax games are broadcast over there, but they can watch them too, right? They both suck” he said.
How have Edson Álvarez and Jorge Sánchez played this season?
Despite Sneijder’s criticism, the truth is that Edson Álvarez is an undisputed starter in the team. The América youth squad player has played 1,259 minutes in the league over 16 games, 15 of which he has started.
For his part, Jorge Sánchez has accumulated 653 minutes in the 10 games he has played in the Eredivisie, starting six, scoring one goal.
Now a new era begins at Ajax as Alfred Schreuder was sacked and John Heitinga arrived as interim coach to try to save the team who return to activity this Sunday January 29 when they visit Excelsior.
