Sydney Sweeney, actress, makes Cristiano Ronaldo confession
On a visit to the stadium of Ronaldo’s former club Sporting CP, Sweeney spoke of her admiration for the soccer legend.
There can’t be many people left on Earth who don’t know who Sydney Sweeney is. The American actress - best known for her roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - has become one of the most widely talked‑about stars in the entertainment industry. And yet, despite her fame, there are still a few things about her life that aren’t common knowledge. For instance: she’s a soccer fan.
Sweeney has shown love for Inter Milan on more than one occasion. That stands in contrast to her take on MLS - she hasn’t publicly backed any specific team, nor has she been spotted frequently at league stadiums. The NFL, however, is a different story: she’s a proud supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles.
“He would be my inspiration”
What’s surprising is that her list of favorite teams also includes a historic European club: Sporting CP. The actress visited Lisbon’s José Alvalade Stadium to watch Sporting face Estoril - a match the home side won 3–1.
Social media quickly filled with clips of Sweeney juggling a ball on the pitch and sharing playful moments with the club’s mascot, the lion Jubas. She looked relaxed, natural, genuinely enjoying herself. So much so that she even took a moment to talk about a player who came through Sporting’s academy and went on to conquer the world: Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is my favorite footballer,” she said without hesitation, before explaining why: “I’m a competitive person, and if I were a footballer, he would be my inspiration.”
