The American soccer starlet who dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or
The young American footballer made clear his dream of shining at an international level.
US Soccer may have unearthed a promising talent in Cole Campbell, an 18-year-old American making waves in European soccer, particularly in the Bundesliga. This season has been pivotal for Campbell, who is taking significant leaps toward solidifying his reputation as a rising star for the USMNT while playing for Borussia Dortmund.
Despite featuring in only three Bundesliga matches and making one appearance in the Champions League, Campbell is steadily carving out a role at Borussia Dortmund, the current runners-up in Europe.
In an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, Campbell reflected on his debut season with Dortmund, highlighting the thrill of playing in the Champions League—a stage he had always dreamed of reaching.
“It was an amazing feeling to make my Champions League debut, it’s something I’ve been dreaming towards my entire life and for it to come true was really amazing,” the 18-year-old American explained.
Dreams of the Ballon d’Or, the Champions League and the World Cup
At just 18 years of age, the confident Cole Campbell has incredibly high goals and aspirations. he has made clear his desire to shine at an international level, win a Ballon d’Or and win the Champions League.
Likewise, like every footballer, Campbell dreams of winning a World Cup, and is already focussed on creating a future for himself with the USMNT in Mauricio Pochettino’s side ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“I want to win a Ballon d’Or, also a Champions League. The biggest tournament in the world is the World Cup and that’s a dream of mine one day. As far as my confidence, I’ve always had this belief in myself. When that happens I’ll be a very happy person,” Campbell added.
Campbell sees a bright future for USMNT
As well as his own personal ambitions, Cole Campbell spoke about the growth that American football has seen in the past 10 years. He was clear that for him it is an honour to be part of such a rapid football rise.
“The way soccer has grown for Americans over the last 10 years has been really on the uprise and I am very proud to be a part of this growth and I hope it only gets better in the coming years,” he concluded.
