Tigres, América, Monterrey, Chivas have been the biggest players in Liga MX’s winter transfer window before the 2023 Clausura begins.

A new year means new hopes and dreams for the 18 clubs in Liga MX, with the start of the 2023 Clausura just around the corner. After the Qatar 2022 World Cup, domestic Mexican soccer is back with a new title to play for, with Pachuca coming in as defending champions. The transfer market is in full flow and with less than five days to go until the start of the tournament, we take a look at the biggest signings that have been made so far.

Who have Chivas signed for the 2023 Clausura?

Chivas, America, Monterrey and Tigres have made the most eye-catching moves in the winter window. The Rebaño Sagrado have snapped up Víctor Guzmán, who had a fantastic year with Pachuca and has a score to settle at Chivas having previously been denied the chance to pull on the Guadalajara shirt in 2020 after failing a drug test on the eve of the season. ‘Pocho’ has established himself as one of the best attacking players in Mexican soccer, with Transfermarkt, a website specialising in transfers and market values, valuing him at around €6.5 million ($6.93 million).

Who have América signed for the 2023 Clausura?

América haven’t been hanging around either and, after several failed attempts, finally managed to secure the services of Israel Reyes. The centre-back was one of the most in-demand Mexican players in Liga MX and it was Las Águilas who beat a host of other clubs to his signature ahead of the 2023 Clausura. Reyes arrives from Puebla and will now look to earn a place in Fernando Ortiz’s starting line-up either as a central defender or holding midfielder, from where he will hope to force his way into the Mexican national team setup.

América’s second winter signing is Luis Malagón. The goalkeeper, who won a bronze medal with Mexico at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, joined the club as a replacement for Tri number one Guillermo Ochoa, who has left for Salernitana in Italy. Malagón arrives from Necaxa and will now compete with Óscar Jiménez for a starting role between the sticks.
