Toluca 3 vs 0 LA Galaxy live online: stats, score, goals and highlights | Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal second leg
Toluca went into LA with a 4-2 lead after the first leg of the quarters from Mexico, and they poured it on against the Galaxy with a 3-0 win away from home.

Show key events only
Now it's time to determine the fourth semifinalist. Toluca will be returning to Los Angeles for their semifinal tie against LAFC, while Nashville SC await their opponent in the next round. Tigres have a 2-0 lead coming into the second leg from Seattle.
With the win in the bag, and a spot in the semis booked, it was time for Paulinho to add the icing on the cake. Nicolas Castro took the ball over in the middle of the park and played a perfectly weighted pass to Paulinho who capped his brace with a delicate chip over the keeper. Over the course of the 180 minutes, Paulinho scored five goals, and almost single handily put Toluca in the semis.
After the halftime break, LA knew they needed to throw players forward but so did Toluca. The defense didn't budge, and Paulinho was there licking his lips at some of the counterattacks that he was presented. This was a fantastic bit of build up from left to right, and Helinho played a picture perfect pass to Paulinho who put his name on the scoresheet after a first leg hat trick from Toluca.
Toluca are moving on to the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup after a demolition of the LA Galaxy over the two legs. Paulinho was the star of the show with five goals over both legs, and now they set their sights on LAFC in the next round of the CCC.
After a 4-2 win at home last week, Toluca knew getting a goal away from home would just about seal things from Dignity Health Sports Park, and it didn't take long for the Mexicans to get on the board. A wondergoal from Jesus Gallardo put the Red Devils on the board first, and left LA needing at least a 3-1 win to advance. LA never came close to pressuring Toluca who played sound defense, and hit LA on the counter all night long.
IT´S ALL OVER HERE FROM LA!!!
Toluca are heading to the semifinals where they will play LAFC after a 7-2 aggregate, five of those thanks to their sensational striker, Paulinho.
Two more minutes to go in the 90 and you would think the ref would want to put LA out of their misery with no stoppage time.
Gabriel Pec trying to catch the keeper off his line from the middle of the park, but that was directly at the keeper and easily saved.
The fans are clearing out here at Dignity Health Sports Park. Everyone is trying to get a head start on the traffic since this game has been over for quite some time.
Frustrating moments for the Galaxy who know that their run in the CCC has come to an end, and maybe just a little rush of blood to the head from Haak sends Castro to the ground in a heap.
The OLEs are ringing around here from LA as the Red Devil fans are just sitting back and enjoying the show at the moment.
Gabriel Pec winds up and has a go from outside the area but Garcia saw coming the entire time and wrapped it up with ease.
I guess the only question now, is will Paulinho get his hat trick? That would have to be some sort of CCC history, scoring two hat tricks in both ties of a quarterfinal.
Yamane plays in Gabriel Pec with a nice ball to the left side of the area, and his one time shot drifts just wide of the target. Frustrating night in front of goal for the Californians.
Well they don´t mind defending but they have a nose for goal, and this time it's Castro running on to a through ball in the box and he zips it across the face of goal just wide. Paulinho was in the area and stretched out for his hat trick but it just went begging.
Toluca content now to drop back and just watch the time run down.
When you have service like Paulinho has had in this tie, it makes a striker's job easy. The ball from Castro was perfect and Paulinho's finish was anything from ordinary.
Paulinho just can't stop scoring. Give credit to the build up from left to right, and the last touch from Helinho before finding the striker who was clinical in front of goal for his fourth goal of the tie.
Thommy just went down with what looks like a hamstring injury and that's unfortunate to see at this stage of a game that is well in the books.
The finish was stunning but again Castro played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Paulihno, and from there it was just target practice for Paulinho.
GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!!
Toluca just scoring for fun now, and again it's Paulinho who broke in behind the defense, and scooped it over the keeper for his brace!!! What a player, what a striker, what a goal scorer this Paulinho is.
Lay off from Reus at the top of the area, and a sliding challenge by Barbosa was brilliantly timed to cut out the shot.
Helinho scaling across the top of the box and let a shot go that was deflected by his own teammate in the area.
LA was enjoying a spell of possession that allowed their guys to push up, but a couple of quick, precise passes led to a wide open look for Paulinho and he knows what to do with it in that position. Four goals in these two quarterfinal matches.
GOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!
Castro with a diagonal ball to Helinho who picked out Paulinho running into the box with no one around, and he tucks it home to put this tie to bed!!!
Gabriel Pec with a step over and touch towards the end line and his cross was nearly perfect, but it just floated over the head of Weyner.
Aude's cross was over the head of everyone, and another push up the park goes chasing. Nothing really happening in the attacking third.
Barbosa just shoved Gabriel Pec on the border of the touchline and he gets booked as the ref goes to his pocket for the first time tonight.
Strong stuff from Castro on the left side to hold off defenders and Helinho puts in a cross to Paulinho which was headed away. That ball fell to Barbosa on the outside of the area, and he took it one time but that shot just sailed a bit wide of the target.
Aude takes a stroll up the park and looked to bloop it over to the far post, but that was never going to reach Yamane who went chasing after that heavy touch that rolled out for a goal kick.
Reus goes down chasing after a ball in the area, and looks to the ref for a penalty, but the ref says play on. He was well positioned and got a good look at the challenge put in by Del Villar.
Short corner to Helinho who whips it in to a dangerous area but the keeper was there off his line with a couple of strong hands to punch it away.
Helinho sent in behind the defenders and he looked to play it square across the box. That pass was cut out for a corner.
Toluca will be looking to pounce on any counter attacking chance they have. One more goal for the Mexicans should be enough to end this tie.
WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM LA FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION.
LA have work to do, while Toluca just need to hold tight and keep buckling down defensively.
Before we start the second half, LA are going to make a substitution as Wynder comes on for Garces.
Don't forget, just after the end of this second leg from LA, we have a showdown in Seattle as the Sounder look to make a comeback on Tigres in the last quarterfinal match up before all four semifinalists are announced.
It´s a goal that could settle the scores in this quarterfinal match up and what a goal to do it. The left back Gallardo with a rocket past the keeper Marcinkowski who had no chance of stopping this thunderous opener.
The Galaxy have their work cut out after conceding an early goal to Gallardo. They tried to get one on the board before the break, but Toluca's defense is standing strong, and now they need three second half goals at least to have a chance.
WE ARE HEADING TO THE HALFTIME BREAK HERE FROM LOS ANGELES!!!!
Ball over the top to Reus from the right side, and he had to stretch for it. He got a touch but it fell right into Garcia's hands.
LA concede a corner kick, and Helinho's ball to the front post in popped up and out of the area by the LA defense.
THREE MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME COMING.
After a give away in the middle of the park, it was Helinho being a bit too unselfish with a back heel in the box, but he had a chance to gather and have a look at goal. Instead it was sniffed out and the danger was overted.
Angulo with a faked shot in the middle of the park, took a touch to the right and put one on frame that was a bit too near the keeper Marcinkowski.
Helinho getting a stern talking to after a late challenge on Aude, but the ref is going to keep his card in his pocket.
Gallardo looking for goal number two after Castro played him square from outside the area, but his shot from the left side of the area was deflected as the steam came out of that shot.
Great build up from left to right from the Galaxy and it ended with Cerrillo making a run down the middle of the box and trying a shot with the outside of the foot that just faded wide of target. Best bit of play so far from LA.
Helinho played in on the left side of the box and he spanked it on frame but Marcinkowski was there with a strong leg to prevent the second goal being put on the scoreboard.
Goal, but Offside!!!
The ball ended up in the back of the net, but the offside flag is up. Toluca was celebrating at the end of that free kick after Gallardo nodded the header on towards goal, it banged off the cross bar and the rebound was followed up, but Gallardo got the last touch and he was in an offside position.
Reus with another foul and this one is a little closer to the area, which will give Toluca a chance to push bodies into the area for this set piece.
Reus trips up Castro and might have been lucky to escape a yellow card after taking him down in the middle of the center circle.
Toluca are taking their time any time they get a throw in or a foul, just ticking some valuable time off the clock.
Helinho winds up from outside the box and sprays an effort well wide or target.
Thommy with a run in behind and Aude found him on the left side in plenty of space but the angle was acute and it ended up being an easy save for Garcia.
LA enjoying a nice spell of possession which is good for them, but Toluca look awfully comfortable sitting back and letting the Galaxy come at them.
Reus tries a ball in behind the defense for Garbiel Pec who made a run that was just too early and the flag goes up for offside.
Thommy sends a ball into the box, but it's easily dealt with by Garcia. A rare charge forward and LA are starting to feel the urgency perhaps. Let's see if they can build off of this.
You have to think if the Galaxy are going to have any chance, they are going to have to get a goal before the halftime break. No need to play cautious it's time to put caution to the wind.
Toluca not shying away from having a try or two from long distance. It worked for them on the first goal, so why not keep testing the keeper?
It was a stunner from Gallardo, who found a pocket of space and laced one past the keeper for that vital away goal. That means LA are going to have to win by 3-1 or better.
It´s been all Toluca through the first quarter of an hour. The Galaxy may be at home, but Toluca are imposing their dominance north of the border.
Other quarterfinal matches
Last night two quarterfinal ties were settled and it was the MLS sides passing through to the next round. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg from Nashville, they went into the Estadio Azteca and beat Club America with a 51st minute goal from Hany Mukhtar. LAFC also went down to Mexico and secured their spot in the semifinals after their 3-0 win from Los Angeles, they defended well and kept Cruz Azul to just one goal, and ended up equalizing in stoppage time to secure their place in the next round where they will be awaiting the winner of this quarterfinal tie.
CCC History: Toluca
It's been over two decades since los Diablos Rojos have won the Cup in this competition, but they are looking to get back to the finals for the first time since 2013. They won the fourth edition of this tournament back in 1968, but didn't hoist the trophy again until 2003. Since then they have been to two finals in 2006 and 2013/14, but came up empty.
CCC history: Galaxy
LA haven´t had much luck in this competition, winning it just once in their three decade long history. Their only Cup came in the year 2000 when they beat Honduran side Olimpia in the final, but since then they have had a frustrating time trying to add a second CCC title to their trophy cabinet. They made it to the quarters last season but got knocked out by Tigers UANL. This year they will be looking to take a deeper run into the tournament as they look for their 2nd CCC title.
League form: LA Galaxy
The Galaxy might be fighting for a semifinal spot in the CCC, but their league campaign has not been going according to plan so far. They did win just their second of seven matches in the league over the weekend against the Austin FC in Texas, but they are currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference, and have a -1 goal difference having allowed 11 and scored just 10.
League form: Toluca
Toluca are coming off of a 1-1 draw to Atletico San Luis over the weekend. They took the lead in the 72nd minute thanks to a Franco Rossi goal, and held on to it all the way into stoppage time. In the 7th minute of stoppage time they gave up the equalizer and shared the spoils from the Estadio Nemesio Diez. The draw was their sixth of the Clausura, which leaves them with 27 points, just four points behind Guadalajara Chivas. Toluca are the team that concedes the least amount of goals in the Clausura with just 9 allowed and are tied with the league leaders with the best goal difference with a +11.
Star watch: LA Galaxy
For the Galaxy, the first leg changed when Marco Reus came on the pitch in the 58th minute. The former Dortmund and German national team star took no time to show his class and his experience in big games like the one he entered as a substitute in Toluca. He sliced the defense up with a perfect pass for Gabriel Pec who scored the 2-1 and then tucked home a bouncing ball in the box for the 3-2 in the 77th minutes. Reus had a massive impact on this match, and he should be heavily involved from the start tonight. Pec has six goals in the tournament to lead the competition and Joao Klauss has 5 goals in 7 matches in the MLS. There is no shortage of fire power for the Galaxy, but can they keep Toluca from scoring? That's the question here from Los Angeles.
Star watch: Toluca
No need to look for anyone else for Toluca. Paulinho is the star of the show, and he proved that last week in the Estadio Nemesio Diez. He has 21 goals in 32 Liga MX matches and has four goals to his name in just three CCC matches. Jesus Angulo could be the other danger man in front of the LAFC goal, with two goals to his name in three CCC matches, and 7 in the league. Helinho is a wizard on the right side, and he has scored 9 goals and served up five assists in the league, but just one goal in the CCC.
How they got here: LA Galaxy
Greg Vanney's men had a tricky first round matchup against Sporting San Miguelito of Panama. They picked up a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg, and the away goal was enough to move them on after a 0-0 second leg. Their round of 16 matchup was a bit more comfortable as they beat Mount Pleasant of Jamaica 3-0 in each leg.
How they got here: Tolcua
Toluca got a first round bye in the CCC, which placed them in a round of 16 matchup with San Diego FC. They lost the opening leg in California 3-2 to San Diego side that went down a man in the 12th minute, but would rebound in the return with a 4-0 win to book their ticket to the quarterfinals.
First leg recap
Last week in Toluca it was the Red Devils setting the tone early. They got right to work and took control of the tie with a 12th minute goal from Nicolas Castro to put Toluca up 1-0. Paulinho put his first of three goals past the LA keeper with a brilliant bit of build up in the attacking third to take a 2-0 lead right before the halftime break. Gabriel Pec and the Galaxy weren't about to give up, cutting the lead in half in the 65th minute but Paulinho would answer right back in the 72nd. Marco Reus would pull the Galaxy to within a goal just four minutes after, but Paulinho had the last word in the 85th minute deflecting a clearance from the back in to the net for his hat trick and to send Toluca to LA with a 4-2 lead to protect.
We are live from LA
Hello everyone and welcome to Los Angeles where the Galaxy are back home hoping to reverse the scoreline from last week and advance to the next round of the CCC. Toluca got a great result in front of their home fans last week, but did leave themselves a little vulnerable after giving up a couple of second half goals to the Galaxy. LA will be looking to make up the difference tonight while Toluca will be hoping to defend their first leg lead. Will it be another MLS side making it to the semis, or will Toluca end the trend tonight from LA?
