Toluca and Pachuca will battle it out for the Liga MX Apertura 2022 with the final being played over two legs. Toluca will host the first game at their Nemesio Diez Stadium on Thursday 27 October with the final to be resolved and the new champions revealed in the second leg at Estadio Hidalgo on Sunday 30 October.

Toluca made it to the Last 8 after beating Juárez 3-0 in the liguilla. They beat Santos Laguna home and away in the quarter finals (4-3 and 1-2) to become the only team from those below the top four to advance. In the semi-final, they eliminated tournament favourites and top seeds América, ending their unbeaten 14-game run.

Pachuca’s journey to the final took them past Tigres and Monterrey. Guillermo Almada’s side will be aiming to lift their seventh title - their first since 2016.

The Liga MX season is divided into two league tournaments. The Apertura (‘opening’) and the Clausura (‘closing’). The Apertura runs from July to December and the Clausura runs from January to May.

If the aggregate score is level after both legs

The Liga MX Apertura final is played over two games, each one played at the finalists’ stadium with the higher seeded team playing the deciding leg at their ground. In this case, Pachuca, who were seeded fourth, will host Toluca (seeded sixth) at home in Sunday’s return leg.

The winners will be decided by the aggregate score - the sum of the results from both legs. If the aggregate score remains tied on 90 minutes of the second leg then the game will go to extra-time. If the score is still level after 30 minutes of extra-time (two halves of 15 minutes), then the match will be decided by a penalty shootout - an initial five penalties taken by each team followed by sudden death if the shootout is tied after both teams have taken their five spot-kicks.
