Contrary to expectations in the transfer market for the Clausura 2024 tournament, Sergio Canales, the Spanish midfielder from Rayados de Monterrey, remains the most expensive transfer in Liga MX, using data from Transfermarkt, a specialist in football transfer capture. Even the recent transfer of the Italo-Argentine Juan Brunetta from Santos to Tigres did not surpass the value generated by Canales’ move to Rayados in the previous tournament, which exceeded 12 million dollars.

Canales tops Liga MX transfers

Coming from Real Betis of the Spanish league, and with a career that includes stints at Valencia, Racing de Santander, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis, Canales, unfortunately, faced a thigh injury that limited him to only five official matches, from matchday 5 to 9, thus affecting his performance.

In the context of these market values, Brunetta’s recent move from Santos to Tigres was thought to potentially set a record in the Mexican market, but it fell short compared to Canales’ cost, as Brunetta cost Tigres 10.95 million dollars.

Next on the list is the Colombian-born Mexican national, Julián Quiñones, who cost América the same as Brunetta after his transfer from Atlas. They are followed by the Uruguayan Fernando Gorriarán of Tigres at $9.86 million, then the Mexican Erick Sánchez of Pachuca at the same price. The Uruguayan Maximiliano Araújo from Toluca is next with $9.31 million, and the Spanish Álvaro Fidalgo from América at $8.76 million.

The final three spots in the top 10 most expensive signings in Liga MX include Uruguayan Juan Manuel Sanabria of Atlético San Luis at $8.2 million, Chilean Diego Valdés of América at $7.665 million, and Mexican Jesús Angulo of Tigres, who cost the same as the offensive midfielder from Águilas.
