Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Lineker “concerned” with Harry Kane transfer situation

Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer has been the subject of numerous bids from Bayern Munich and would leave a massive void in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Bayern Munich have submitted a third bid for Harry Kane, leaving Tottenham Hotspur facing the prospect of losing their all-time record goalscorer just a week before the start of the new season.

The German champions have had two previous bids for Kane rejected this summer. The the second was worth €80 million plus adds-ons, a considerable amount for a 30-year-old entering the final year of his contract.

Representatives from Bayern were in London earlier this week for talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs have not yet responded to the latest attempt to prise their talisman away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but club legend Gary Lineker told PA news agency that the situation is far from ideal.

I’m concerned for Spurs either way, whatever happens with Harry,” Lineker said.

“I have been concerned about them for a while, I see where they ended last season and they are in the worst position they had been in for quite some time.”

Despite the team’s struggles, Kane continued to impress in a poor Spurs side last season. He reached 30 Premier League goals as the team slumped to eighth, Spurs’ lowest Premier League finish position since Kane made his debut in 2009/10.

Kane departure would be nightmare start for Postecoglou

After a year of turmoil under Antonio Conte, Christian Stellini and Ryan Mason, Tottenham appointed former Celtic head coach Ange Postecoglou to lead the team for the upcoming season. However Spurs have struggled to overhaul the squad in the way that many fans had hoped and Kane’s future is still in the balance, just days from the start of the season.

Lineker said of his former club: “They have made an exceptional signing in James Maddison, he is a better player than a lot of people think, I think he is absolutely top class.”

“That is a good addition but they are a long, long way short,” he continued. “The new manager could make a difference, but Harry, the goals he scores, take that away from any team it would be hugely difficult.

“It is time to rebuild for Tottenham - rebuild, rethink, re-plan.”

After drifting in recent seasons, Postecoglou already faces a huge challenge to get Tottenham Hotspur competing for major honours once again. Losing Kane at this late stage would be a nightmare start for the Australian coach.
