Tyler Adams becomes the third most expensive transfer in US history
The United States international has officially joined Premier League side Leeds United and he will rejoin with manager Jesse Marsch.
It has been reported that Leeds United have paid €17 million to RB Leipzig and the price will increase to €23 million with add-ons for Tyler Adams. The United States international signed a five-year contract at Elland Road on Wednesday morning, the fourth signing of Jesse Marsch since he took over the job- three of them having previously worked with him.
“I am super excited,” Adams told LUTV. “Jesse [Marsch] was a huge influence on my career so far. He’s given me a lot of experiences as a young player that other players may not have received.
“So, he was definitely a big influence [in coming to Leeds United] and so was [director of football] Victor Orta, he played a big role for me. There wasn’t much convincing he needed to do for me to come here, but he had a great plan in place for me to develop as a person and a player.”
Adams joins a prestige list
Even though neither RB Leipzig or Leeds United have confirmed the total cost of the transfer for Tyler Adams, several reports confirm that it is almost $24 million. This means that once it is official, the 23-year-old will become the third most expensive transfer for an American player just behind Brenden Aaronson, who signed with Leeds last month for $28 million, and Christian Pulisic.
