The current generation of the United States national team is poised to represent the Stars and Stripes flag admirably in the United 2026 World Cup. However, as the big event approaches, they also have the mission of preparing in the best possible way.

Qualification for 2026 is not in doubt, although other competitions are to be battled for in the meantime, so the friendly matches scheduled for the October FIFA international break against Germany and Ghana hold significant importance as another step towards final preparation.

With the aim of continuing their preparation for the Concacaf Nations League quarter-finals, which offer qualification spots for the 2024 Copa América, the USMNT faces one of the most intriguing weeks in international football. These two upcoming friendlies on American soil represent an opportunity for Gregg Berhalter’s players to arrive with high confidence and bring more optimism to their fans.

USMNT goalscorers

Over the weekend in European club competitions, notable players who found the back of the net include the likes of Christian Pulisic (AC Milan), Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco), Malik Tillman (PSV), and Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach). The first two are regular starters for Berhalter, while the others can still be considered contenders for a spot in the lineup.

USMNT assist makers

In addition to those players who scored for their clubs, there are those who contributed with assists. Among them, Yunus Musah (AC Milan) and Luca de la Torre (Celta Vigo) stand out. The player in Italy set up Pulisic, and the one in Spain did the same for Jonathan Bamba.

Another American who provided an assist was the young Bryan Reynolds (KVC Westerlo), who plies his trade in Belgium.

...and the USMNT minute grabbers

The backbone of the United States regularly logs significant pitch time each week. Before facing Germany and Ghana, some Americans who completed full matches included Matt Turner (Nottingham Forrest), Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream (Fulham), Tim Weah and Weston McKennie (Juventus), and Sergiño Dest (PSV).

Gio Reyna (Borussia Dortmund) also made a return to the pitch.
