The United States Men’s National Team bring the March international window to a close with another warm-up match which will give Mauricio Pochettino another chance to evaluate his team and get a clear picture about who will be included in his roster for this summer’s World Cup.

After crashing to a painful 2-5 defeat to Belgium in Atlanta on Saturday, the USMNT face another tough opponent - one that will test them to the limit. Portugal are fifth in FIFA’s world ranking and are one of the fancied teams at the World Cup - to be more precise, they are among the favorites to lift the trophy.

Portugal, one of the favorites

Roberto Martínez’s team needs no introduction - the Nations League champions boast a squad packed with experienced stars based at Europe’s elite clubs: Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Goncalo Ramos, Dalot, Cancelo... and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo although he won’t be suiting up tonight as he continue to recover from a hamstring injury.

Portugal head into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw against Mexico at the weekend. The team suffered just two defeats in the whole of last year (to Ireland and Denmark) but beat Germany and Spain on their way to lifting the Nations League. So Pochettino’s USMNT will be up against one of the very best.

The last time these two countries met was in November 2017 - a friendly that ended 1-1.
