After Diego Cocca moved to become Mexican national team manager, many felt that the wheels could come off at Tigres. This has been far from the case as with Marco Antonio “Chima” Ruiz as interim, the side from Monterrey recorded yet another impressive result to their seven previous games of the season as they beat Atlas 0-1 at the Jalisco Stadium. The side from Nuevo Leon currently sit in second place in the standings with city rivals, Rayados de Monterrey topping the table.

Without the injured André-Pierre Gignac, the side from Monterrey took the lead against Atlas in added time at the end of the first 45 minutes through Nicolás Ibáñez who nodded home for the only goal of the night.

With the win, Tigres move to 18 points and trail Monterrey with Rayados having secured 21 thanks to a impressive 7-game winning streak. Alarm bells are already ringing for Atlas fans as the team have now gone six games without a win, securing just four points out of the last 18. The ‘Rojinegros’ lie in 13th place and are in danger of missing out again on a post-season place as they did with the 2022 Apertura.
